WORKING PAPERS

  • Disruptive Innovation in Emerging Markets: Strategic Interactions Between Born Globals and MNCs
    Guerra, J. (2024).
This paper investigates how born-global firms and multinational corporations (MNCs) in emerging markets respond to disruptive innovations. Using agent-based modeling (ABM) combined with business ecosystem dynamics, it simulates competitive interactions and decision-making among firms, governments, and AI vendors. Insights reveal that born globals leverage disruptive technologies for rapid scaling through agility and partnerships, while MNCs focus on incremental innovations to maintain dominance. This work extends disruptive innovation theory by highlighting firm size and strategy’s role in market adaptation.

  • AI-Enhanced Dynamic Capabilities: A Quasi-Experimental Study of Market Competitiveness in Emerging Economies
    Guerra, J. (2024).
Focusing on AI adoption in emerging markets, this study examines how dynamic capabilities influence market competitiveness. Employing quasi-experimental methods, it compares firms leveraging fine-tuned AI models with those using general-purpose systems. Results indicate that investing in AI infrastructure and employee training accelerates innovation, operational efficiency, and international market entry. The findings contribute to dynamic capabilities theory and offer strategic insights for firms adopting AI in resource-constrained contexts.

  • AI-Driven Internationalization: A Born Global Perspective on Emerging Market Firms
    Guerra, J. (2024).
This paper explores how AI technologies enable born-global firms in emerging markets to achieve rapid internationalization, bypassing traditional gradual globalization paths. Using a mixed-methods approach—fsQCA for qualitative analysis and LinkedIn-based web scraping for quantitative insights—it identifies patterns in AI-enabled global expansion strategies. Findings demonstrate that AI enhances real-time decision-making, allowing firms to balance global integration with local responsiveness. This study deepens Born Global Theory by integrating AI as a strategic enabler of accelerated international growth.
